In the shadow of His wings

A few weeks ago the picture that kept coming to my mind is of the Altar, the Ark that David made a tent for. The Ark representing the very presence of the Lord. What comes to mind is a Psalm.

Psalm 17:6-9:

6 “I call on You, O God,for You will answer me.Incline Your ear to me; hear my words. Show the wonders of Your loving devotion,You who save by Your right handthose who seek refuge from their foes. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings. from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

In thinking about this, I remember that David did not have a temple yet, although he wanted to build God a house, he did not get to build it. So he pitched a tent for the Ark.

2 Samuel 6:17

17So they brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

A tent for the Ark of the covenant, the presence of God was in a tent and David would go frequently to only bring his worship but also often to ask for direction and thus ‘inquire’ of the Lord whenever he was facing hardships. He would seek His direction on what to do.

I am sure David did not only inquire of the Lord or worshipped Him there, but would also find refuge there. Especially as a leader, he probably needed a place to run to. How otherwise would he write and tell God to hide him in the shadow of His wings.

We need this refuge today. We don’t know what to do in the face of this crisis. Our leaders need our prayers for wise decision making, but more than anything we need wisdom and direction and refuge.

I love using my imagination and picturing the rays of sun shining through and perphaps the wings of the cherubim would cast a shadow on the ground and David could actually literally find ‘shelter’ in the shadow of those wings.

However you would like to picture those words, for me it is comforting to know that those wings are His very presence. He wants us to run to His presence. Especially in the time in which we live. I want to run there don’t you. Some of us need a physical place to run to, but do you know we can run to Him in our words, our expression, our ‘prayers’.

This is not the time to come up with opinions on how we think our leaders should do better in protecting us from this virus. This is the time to run to the presence of God, to ‘inquire’ of the Lord. To sit still, to listen, to hide in the shadow of His wings.

So many have brought up Psalm 91 and why not. It is a beautiful reminder of where we are allowed to run. A beautiful reminder of a promise. That is what we do when we find ourselves in times of trouble, in times of hardship. We remind ourselves of what was said, what was promised adn Psalm 91:4 brings it beautifully.

Psalm 91:4

4He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and rampart.

How amazing is that. He will cover you with His feathers, under His wings you will find refuge. Here it talks about how God is a protector of His people. His faithfulness (which is who He is) will be a shield and rampart. A rampart is like a walled city surround the city to protect it. This is what the faithfulness of the Lord does for those who believe in Him, fear Him and follow His ways.

Friend, in the midst of this very grim looking situation we are facing in the world today. This virus that seems to go after us like an enemy. Let us be more like David. Let us inquire of the Lord, let us ask Him for His insight, let us hide in the shadow of His wings. Let us find refuge under His wings, refuge and protection in His faithfulness.

How?

Rehearse how God has been faithful to you. How has He shown you His faithfulness?

“But You O Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generation.” (Psalm 102:12)

“But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children’s children – with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey His precepts.” (Psalm 103:18)

“The Lord has established his throne in heaven and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the  Lord, you his angel, you might ones, who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, O my soul.” (Psalm 103:19-22)

Psalm 103 starts out with David expressing His praise to the Lord with his whole heart and soul. He is understood that we could never give enough praise and worship to the Lord.

“Praise the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalm 103:2)

I don’t know about you, but these days I find myself longing to run to the Altar, the presence of the Lord, to find refuge. Not in fear, but in my need for Him, my need for His view on things, my need for greater understanding, greater peace. I believe that it can only be found in Him, Jesus in me the hope of glory. I am going to join with David in saying:

“Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being praise His Holy Name.”

His Faithfulness shines bright

How can I begin to express my gratitude with the Lord for this past week. He has been so faithful to uphold us when things around us seem to come against us.

As some of you were aware, Giacomo made a fall and fractured a rib. Returning to the hospital two days later due to difficulty breathing we were told he now has 2 more fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. He was admitted for 2 days to drain his lung from the excess liquid built up and to get it sealed and have air put back into the lung.

It was good for him to spend two days there. Giacomo came back on Wednesday with another check up visit this past Friday and the doctor is very pleased all is heading well!!! Praise the Lord.

In this same week we started our September DTS which I am giving leadership to with an amazing team of staff!! Twenty two amazing young people, all hungry to learn more about God.

Two of our students are from Nicaragua and shared how hard the situation in Nicaragua is but also testified of when they got to pray over the police force and how God used them to speak blessing over their lives. They are here learning more about God, more about how He created them so they can go back to Nicaragua full of the truth of Jesus.

This week we shared about YWAM History, Values and the Belief Tree and wise decision making! What an amazing week full of revelation for both students and staff. The DTS is such an amazing time in which the Lord gives fresh revelation about His heart for us, His love for us and where students hear His voice for the first time! God shone with His faithfulness over our first week of class, over the students.

I just love seeing students get personal revelation about how much God cares about them and how much He wants to show them more of who He is.

We also officially started with our Special Interest Tracks during this DTS. Students will be learning about Soccer and Sports and how we can use this for missions!!

DTS Sept Soccer Track

Another group is learning photography and how to use that for the expansion of God’s Kingdom, another group is learning more about worship and another team will learn about Digital Sound.

We are so excited about all that God is doing, we are seeing Him move in our midst and no matter what comes our way, we continue to trust in His faithfulness and goodness. As a family we have seen some hardship this week, but we will not let this take us out of what we are walking in.

Although we are experiencing some challenges and needs as a family specially for our children as we need to register them for the 2019 school year next week. We need to see some financial miracles, but trust the Lord will continue to provide every need as He has done so faithfully over the past 22 years.

Thank you for your prayers for YWAM San Jose, for the current DTS that is receiving classes and is about to enter into their second week of class, learning about the Character and Nature of God with two amazing speakers from YWAM in Guatemala City.

Pray for our current DTS that is on outreach and will soon be leaving to Uganda for the next part where they will be building a home and will be ministering the message of the Gospel to different tribes.
